Joachim Fleinert (b. 1984 in Denmark) is a lens-based artist living in Copenhagen. In his work, Joachim Fleinert often uses collected photography in his practice that he assembles into recognizable shapes and figures in wall-sized collages, sculptures, video, and interactive installations. Besides his MA and MFA studies in Gothenburg and London, Joachim Fleinert has lived and worked in Mexico and Russia, which have shaped his dedication to human rights, feminism and social criticism that are reflected in his artworks.
Common to his projects is that they are often a result from personal journeys related to his life and background as a Dane. Whether the photographs in his projects are found physically in the urban landscape or in connection with an investigation of a local or digital archive, it enables him to work across time, space, and perspectives. Throughout his body of work, he is exposing the themes of Danish history, national identity and heritage, delving into taboo and controversial topics that face the danger of being neglected or forgotten.
Joachim Fleinert graduated MFA in Fine Art Photography from HDK-Valand in 2021 and MA Photography from University of the Arts London in 2013, He have been exhibiting at institutions and venues such as, Pingyao International Photo Festival (CN), The Hasselblad Center (SE), Riga Photo Month (LV), Photoville (US) and The Photographers' Gallery (UK), NFT-NYC (US), Biannale.io and curated exhibitions in Metaverse. Notable awards and grants include recipient of the The Victor Fellowship in 2011 from Hasselblad Foundation, The Bar-Tur Award in 2012 and The Danish Arts Council, Production Grant. His artworks are part of the collections of The Hasselblad Foundation in Gothenburg and Museum of Nordic Digital Art, MoNDA in Denmark.
